Reupholstering vs Buying New

I’m sitting here in my workshop pondering ‘Reupholstering Vs Buying New’ and how many times this question is searched on the internet each month.

I visited one of my customers last week who had a chair she loves, but the fabric was old and worn, so she wanted a cost to reupholster it as she’s looked at buying a new chair but couldn’t quite find the right one.

I arranged an appointment to visit her - I do that you see, I visit customers in the comfort of their own home and to see the furniture in its entirety).  Anyhow, back to the chair - it was tired, that was true, but I could see the frame was really well made. The customer had looked at buying a new chair, but she couldn’t quite find one that suited the shape and size of her room.

Once I stripped back the material, I inspected the quality of the frame and as I suspected it was in very good condition, there were a few springs that needed replacing and the odd loose screw which was all easily fixed.

We talked through fabrics and colour schemes and the busy lifestyle she had,  what with 3 children and 2 dogs - the fabric needed to be durable.

The client was so pleased with the results - plus she was doing her bit for the environment and not sending the chair to landfill.
